Impatien

Overview

A popular annual flower, due to its brightly colored blooms and ability to grow in shady areas. Standard impatiens flowers come in a variety of colors, including white, red, pink, violet, coral, purple, and yellow.

Water

Once in the ground, they need at least 2 inches of water a week. When temperatures average above 80F, water at least 4 inches weekly. In window boxes and hanging pots, they may need daily watering, especially if the daily temperature rises above 85F.

Light

They thrive in shade but can do well in a partly sunny area.

Soil

Grow them in well-drained soil enriched with organic material. The soil must drain well to avoid becoming boggy from the frequent watering that impatiens require.
