Petunia
Overview
Petunias are a popular annual with funnel-shaped flowers that come in a wide variety of colors. They can be used for color masses, borders, containers, hanging baskets or as a seasonal groundcover. Plant them in the spring as soon as the frost is over.
Water
Bedded plants need about one deep watering per week. Water when the top 5 inches of the soil is dry. Avoid watering shallowly, as this encourages shallow roots. Petunias in containers require more watering since they dry out faster.
Light
Full sun. Requires 5-6 hours of direct sunlight. However, in the heat of the summer partial shade is good.
Soil
Prefers fertile soil which drains well and is neutral to slightly acid (pH 6.0 to 7.0). Light, sandy soil is ideal.
