Pentas

 

Overview

Pentas are compact annuals. Pollinator-friendly. Low maintenance, easy to grow. New varieties have improved disease-resistance but the biggest issues are spider mites and aphids. This shrub grows anywhere from 18′′ to 36′′ inches tall and reaches 4′ feet tall at maturity.

Water

1 inch of water per week. If there's wilting, add supplemental water. The soil must dry before irrigation. During the rest period, water is not applied more often than every 6-8 days, approximately 1-2 days after the top layer of the soil has dried.

Light

Plant in an area that receives full sun. However, in the hot midday hours. the pentas need to be shaded.

Soil

Suitable well permeable soils rich in humus with pH 5.5-6.5. Must be well-draining. Use 2 parts of leaf 2 parts turf soil and 1 part of coarse sand.
