Opuntia

Overview

Cactus with flat, paddle shaped stems and prickly spines or hairs. Some varieties produce edible fruits, but many varieties are popular ornamental cactus plants for low water gardens.

Water

Plants require minimal water and should only receive supplemental water when the soil is completely dry. When irrigating only apply water lightly to moisten soil but not saturate it.

Plant requires well drained soil, and prefers soil with high levels of sand and gravel.
