Echinocactus

 

Overview

Extremely slow growing cactus with ribs and pretty but sharp spines. Can be grown indoors or outdoors in mild climates, young cactuses remain almost perfectly round and will elongate with age. Will not flower until the plant is at least 15 years old.

Water

Plants are intolerant of soggy soil and will get rot quickly. Water infrequently during the growing season and allow a period of dry down during the dormant season. Never let the plant stay in standing water.

Requires well drained soil, amend soil with sand and rocks if native soil holds too much moisture.
