Agave

Overview

Slow growing succulent with sword shaped foliage and spined leaf tips. Plants can be extremely long lived, but will die after flowering. While the sap can be processed into food flavoring syrups and distilled liquors the raw sap is toxic to people and pets and so should not be ingested. Frost sensitive.

Water

Extremely drought tolerant once established. Water at least once a week when newly planted then gradually reduce water. Once established it will only need supplemental water in the hottest, driest conditions depending on rainfall.

Light

Full sun but benefits from afternoon shade in extremely hot and dry environments.

Soil

Requires well drained soil. Prefers rocky and sandy soil.
